British motorists are finding new vehicles difficult to understand and repair, clams a new survey.
Insurance firm LV= has found that a third of drivers are left feeling unsure by their own dashboards and around three quarters have confessed that it would be impossible to carry out the repair work themselves in the event of a breakdown .
According to the poll, over 80 per cent of car owners said that even basic repairs would leave them baffled and nearly half of the respondents confessed to having poor or non-existent knowledge of what happens under the bonnet of a car .
Emma Holyer, spokeswoman for breakdown service Britannia Rescue, says: "With many cars now relying on complex electronics or technology, many problems now require specialist equipment, as well as specialist knowledge, to get the problem fixed." She added that this meant taking out breakdown cover was even more essential for motorists.
