A new report has revealed that around 14 million drivers in Britain are paying more for their car insurance because they amend their policies.
Millions of drivers in the UK face additional fees on their car insurance policy every year when they change their details says consumer site uSwitch.com. Motorists are being charged for duplicate documents, policy amendments and cancellations.
The company noted that consumers are being made to pay extra to change their name, address and vehicle details. Failure to do this could invalidate the insurance policy and therefore the consumer is left with little option but to pay.
"Consumers need to know where they stand and the easiest way to do this is for the amount providers charge to be consistent across the insurance industry," said Ashton Berkhauer, an insurance expert at uSwitch.com.
Mr Berkhauer explained that not all changes are expensive and that by making certain mid-term alterations, the risk is improved and the premium is lowered which will save money .
